Team Members
Invite colleagues to your Hoppla team. Everyone in a team shares the same monitors, incidents, notification channels and status pages. What each person may change depends on their role.
Inviting Members
- Go to Team settings > Members.
- Click Invite Member, enter the person's email address and choose their role.
- Click Send Invitation.
The invitee receives an email with a link to join your team. If they do not have a Hoppla account yet, they are asked to create one.
Invitations expire after 7 days. Resending an invitation gives it another 7 days. Until it is accepted, revoked or expired, a pending invitation counts toward your team's seats.
Only admins can invite people, resend invitations and revoke them.
Roles
There are four roles. You choose one when you invite someone, and an admin can change it at any time.
| Admin | Member | Operator | Viewer | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| See monitors, incidents, status pages, reports and the activity log | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Manage your own profile, password, MFA, API keys and notification preferences, and export your own personal data | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Create and change monitors, checks, cron jobs, server agents, monitor templates, incidents and maintenance windows | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | – |
| Manage notification channels and rules, status pages, escalation policies and on-call schedules | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | – |
| See and renew the private link of an unlisted status page | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | – |
| Invite people, change roles and remove members | ✓ | – | – | – |
| Change team settings: branding, email delivery (SMTP), single sign-on, the security policy and the monthly report | ✓ | – | – | – |
| Manage the subscription and see invoices | ✓ | – | – | – |
| Export all of the team's data | ✓ | – | – | – |
✓ means the role may do it; – means it may not. Hoppla's servers enforce these rules; the dashboard only shows them.
- Admin: everything, including the people in the team, its settings and its billing.
- Member and Operator: run the team's monitoring and alerting. Today both roles may do the same things, including deleting incidents, removing status-page subscribers and running a migration's switch-over or rollback. The activity log records who did it.
- Viewer: looks at everything the team monitors and changes nothing except their own account.
What only admins can see
Some settings are visible to admins only: email delivery (SMTP), single sign-on, the security policy and invoices. In the activity log, everyone sees what happened and when; only admins see the details of each entry, such as the changed values and the person's email address.
Everyone in the team can see the list of members (including whether each person uses multi-factor authentication), pending invitations, the team's plan, the branding and the monthly report's recipients.
API keys and MCP connections
An API key or an MCP connection never gets more rights than the role of the person who created it. A viewer's key can only read, even if it asks for more. A key can also have fewer rights than its owner: an admin's read-only key can only read.
Paused teams
A paused team can still be opened and read by everyone in it. Changes to monitors, settings and members are blocked until the team's plan is active again. Your own account settings (profile, password, MFA, API keys and notification preferences) and the billing page keep working.
TIP
If your team is managed by a Hoppla partner, the partner takes care of the subscription.
There is also a system role, service, used for API keys a partner creates inside a team and for partner support sessions. It cannot be assigned to people.
Changing a Role
Admins change a role with Change Role next to the member. A change that takes rights away asks for confirmation. Every change takes effect immediately.
A team always keeps at least one admin: the last admin cannot be demoted.
Removing Members
Admins can remove team members:
- Go to Team settings > Members.
- Find the member you want to remove.
- Click the remove button and confirm.
The removed member immediately loses access to the team's dashboard, monitors and data. Their personal Hoppla account remains active: they can still sign in and use other teams they belong to.
Anyone can leave a team themselves under Your account > Your teams. The last admin of a team cannot leave or be removed.
