Monitor Templates
A monitor template is a reusable check preset — the set of checks (and their settings) that should be set up when you create a monitor. You pick a template and supply only the URL; the template decides which checks are enabled. Templates never contain a URL, so the same template applies to any number of monitors.
This is useful when you add monitors regularly and want a consistent set of checks each time — for example "uptime + SSL + security headers" for every marketing site, without configuring each check by hand.
How it works
When you create a monitor, Hoppla attaches checks based on:
- The template you pick in the create form, or
- Your default template, if you've marked one, or
- The standard set (uptime + SSL for HTTPS + DNS + domain expiry) when you have no templates.
You only ever enter the monitor's name and URL — the checks come from the template.
Nothing changes until you create a template
If you don't create any templates, new monitors get the same standard checks as before. Templates are entirely optional.
Creating a template
- Go to Settings → Team → Monitor templates.
- Click New template, give it a name, and tick the checks to include.
- Optionally tick Use as default for new monitors — this template will then be pre-selected on the create form (only one default per team).
- Save.
You can keep several templates (for example "Full website", "API endpoint", "Lightweight uptime-only") and choose the right one per monitor.
Using a template
On Add monitor, the Check template dropdown lists your templates (your default is pre-selected). Choose one, enter the name and URL, and create — the listed checks are attached automatically. Choosing Standard checks uses the built-in default set instead.
Notes
- No URLs, no credentials. A template stores which checks to run and their non-secret settings — never a URL, and never credentials (auth headers, tokens, passwords). Configure per-monitor secrets on the monitor itself after it's created.
- Plan limits are respected. If a template includes a check your plan doesn't allow (for example Lighthouse on a lower tier), that check is simply skipped when the monitor is created; the rest are still set up.
- You can still fine-tune afterwards. Templates set the starting point; you can add, remove, or reconfigure checks on any monitor at any time from its detail page.
Resellers
Resellers can pre-load a check policy for the teams they provision. When a provisioning profile references a monitor template, every team created from that profile gets it as their default template — so the reseller decides which checks new monitors should have, without needing to know the customer's URLs in advance. See Reseller provisioning.
